Visiting Rotarian from Arlesheim Switzerland District 1980

Harry Arlesheim 1980 SwitzerlandWe were visited by Rtn Harry Schaffer from Rotary Club of Arlesheim from  Rotary District 1980 Switzerland. Harry joined us for our meeting and family dinner. The meeting was also attended by our Assistant Governor Rtn. Atul Naik, the District Grants Sub Committee Chair Rtn. Prakash Saraswat, and Rotarians from our parent club of Vasco da gama.

GSE Team from RID 5650 Nebraska Iowa

Rotary GSE Team 5650The GSE Team from Rotary District 5650 (Southeast Nebraska and Southwest Iowa, USA) landed in India on 5 Jan 2012. The team comprised of Barbara Bartle, Lindsay Schmuecker, Stuart Shell and Sarah Skarka. The team was hosted by Amit T, Dinesh and Lalit.

5th Jan was spent recovering from jet lag, time with the host families, and some time on the beach.

Rotary GSE Team 5650 - Yuwak SanghOn 6th, the team visited a potential partner school being evaluated by our club. This was followed by a visit to Yuwak Sangh School Sada where we have completed matching grants project of toilet blocks, and have a WCS project for setting up a library. We also visited the matching grants project of apublic filtered water station setup by RC Vasco. This was followed by the Orientation Programme for the GSE Team. DGE Rtn. Jorson Fernandes, along with other senior Rotarians were present for the function. The team left for  Margao Mid Town in the evening.

Setting up a Library in a school – WCS Project (Education)

libraryInviting partners to help set up a library at one of our partner schools (where we have already completed a Matching Grants project earlier).

The project is listed on ProjectLINK (Dabolim — W05997)

The Yuwak Sangh Primary and Secondary School in Sada, Vasco, India, needs a library to serve its 209 students, many who come from low income families. The Rotary Club of Dabolim will outfit the school with shelves, cupboards and books. The school has already dedicated a room for the new library and will help select the story and reference books for all reading levels.

ProjectLINK is a searchable database that lists Rotary club and district community service projects in need of funding, volunteers, donated goods, and/or partners for a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant, and completed projects that can be used as examples of best practices.

Drinking Water Project at Local College – WCS Project (Water & Sanitation)

waterInviting partners for our Drinking Water project at the only college in the local community – Murgao Education Societys College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar.

The project is listed on ProjectLINK (project # W05918)

The Rotary Club of Dabolim Goa will provide safe and hygienic drinking water to the college. The project will benefit a total of 2303 individuals, 2137 students and 166 staff. The club has already inspected the college, requested quotes, and will oversee the project implementation, while the college will be involved in the installation and maintenance of the water filtration systems. To complete this project, the club is seeking financial donations.

Visiting Rotarian from Rotary Club of Brigg, England

Rotary Club of BriggWe had a visiting Rotarian Angela Lawrence from Rotary Club of Brigg, North Lincolnshire, England who took time off from her holiday in Goa to visit our Matching Grants Project site – New Toilet Blocks at Yuwak Sangh School Sada Goa. They also visited projects of RC Vasco – the Clean Drinking Water Station set up near Yuwak Sangh Sada, and the bus donated to Ashadeep special school.

GSE Team - GermanyWe received and hosted the incoming Rotary GSE team from District 1860 Germany. The team comprised of the team leader Martin Puetz, and the team Petra Oberbeck, Turgay Goksu, Frederic Siebenhaar, Susanne Weisgerber and Carmen Fischer. The Rotary District 1860 is a part of the Future Vision plan of Rotary International.

Meeting with Rotary Club of Waynesboro

The Rotary Club of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania / MES College ZuarinagarWe met Jason Piatt and Dennis Koons of The Rotary Club of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, of Rotary International District 7350. The team visited different project sites of RC Vasco and RC Dabolim. Jason and Dennis also inaugurated the Books and Bookshelf project at Municipal School Vasco and the Clean Drinking Water Station at Sada funded by their club. They also participated in the National Immunization Day Pulse Polio at Rotary’s booth in Vasco da gama.

Provide teachers and educational materials to blind students in Naples, Italy

NapoliMatching Grant # 73960 submitted by Rotary Club of Napoli (Naples), Rotary International District 2100, Italy, and Rotary Club of Dabolim for funding to help provide teachers and educational materials to blind students at Savy Project in Naples, Italy has been approved by The Rotary Foundation (TRF) for USD 5100.

Rotary Club of Napoli (Naples) has been conducting projects to conduct training courses for computer literacy for the blind. The organization of the courses was launched in 1999. In 2007-2008, for the first time are between the teachers two blind students who had attended previous courses and that prior to 2000 had no knowledge of computers. In recent years, the course also makes the most deserving for the European Computer Driving Licence ECDL.

Sewing Machines DistributionSewing Machines Distribution to physically challenged poor and needy women

Sewing Machine - Disabled - SancoaleOur Club distributed hand operated sewing machines to two poor and needy women in Sancoale Village, Goa. One of the women was physically challenged. We hope that the sewing machine project will help empower women to become financially independent, self sufficient, earn their livelihood and live with dignity.

The sewing machines came in from the 3 District 3170 MG Projects for 847 Foot operated sewing machines and 156 Hand operated sewing machines. MG # 72544 with Rotary Oceanside, MG # 72915 Rotary Baltic Riga, District 2410 and MG # 73036 with E club of District 7890. Special thanks to Rtn. Bharat Kamat, Rotary eClub of D-7890 who was the prime contact in getting 420 machines. Rtn. Prakash Saraswat was a project contact for all the 3 projects.

Proposed Water Filter Project at MES College Goa (India)

Murgao Education Societys College of Arts and Commerce at Zuarinagar Goa (India) is the only local college for the community. Currently, the college does not have adequate access to safe drinking water. The Rotary Club of Dabolim Goa proposes to provide safe and hygienic drinking water. The project will benefit a total of 2303 individuals – 2137 students and 166 staff.

The club has already inspected the college, requested quotes, and will oversee the project implementation, while the college will be involved in the installation and maintenance of the water filtration systems to provide clean drinking water. To complete this project, the club is seeking financial donations – US$2439 for six water filters, a storage tank, and the control mechanism for the filtration systems.

The project has been posted on Rotary International’s ProjectLINK and assigned the number W05918.
